Discovering the elusive gem nestled within Glenview's Sunshine Coast hinterland enclave led to the creation of what can only be described as a "unicorn house." 15 Durham Place perfectly embodies this vision.

The brainchild of the current owner, Elliot Weston, the residence seamlessly marries the vibes of Palm Springs with an Australiana twist. The design focuses on a modest front facade, concealing a grand reveal at the back, in line with the theme of understated elegance.

According to Mr. Weston, the execution of this concept couldn't have been more flawless. "We kept the front entrance so discreet that even our front door is hidden," he quipped. "The clean, uncluttered aesthetic flows throughout the entire home, but when you step out to the rear and gaze upon that hillside and the dam, it's a genuinely unique experience. Every step you take from the moment you enter the house builds up to this incredible panorama and atmosphere at the back, highlighted by a full-width deck."

Affectionately named 'The Runway' due to its central wooden catwalk guiding visitors to a breathtaking 21-meter infinity pool, this family's abode is adorned with a sartorial touch that feels just right.

Larisse Wright, Mr. Weston's wife, runs a niche fabric importing business, and her expertise in the world of shipping came in handy when procuring unique materials in a challenging market. "Having a background in shipping definitely helped us acquire what we needed for the construction," Mr. Weston acknowledged. "We ordered some items we wanted to include and stored them during the build. The house boasts plenty of statement pieces and remarkable features."

These include Geostone concrete floors that infuse a sense of sophisticated warmth throughout the five-bedroom, two-bathroom residence. Additional highlights encompass a 9-seat home cinema, a chef's style kitchen equipped with integrated appliances, and a low-maintenance format.

The master suite offers a private deck leading to the pool, complete with distinctive pocket view windows, ensuring unobstructed views of the pool and sky without compromising on privacy.

The family's transition from city to countryside has been seamless, thanks to the home's effortless integration with its natural surroundings. "We aimed to capture the Palm Springs aesthetic and blend the outdoors seamlessly with the indoors, and our builders from DCM brilliantly translated and expanded upon that vision," Mr. Weston shared. "Living in the country, less than 15 minutes from the beach, truly offers the best of both worlds."

The innovative design also takes technological advancements into account. Ducted air conditioning, smart lighting, electric window screens, and a 17kw three-phase solar power system provide the ultimate in high-tech convenience. A Dahua security system and fiber-to-the-house connectivity ensure lightning-fast internet.

While the interior exudes a serene and comforting ambiance, the tranquil rural setting is celebrated from every corner. The property boasts a spring-fed dam, nearly two acres of picturesque hinterland countryside, and a 128sqm studio with air conditioning and a powder room, catering to a home-based business, fitness enthusiasts, or remote work requirements.

Durham Place itself is a lush cul-de-sac, and number 15 offers secure gated driveway access to the rear of the property, along with underground LPG and water tanks for eco-conscious living.

Following a recent feature on Channel 9's Australia's Best House, the property sold within a week for a $3.5 million cash settlement, under the guidance of McGrath Buderim and Mooloolaba.

While bidding farewell may be bittersweet, Mr. Weston has his sights set on a new build in Glenview. "Our next project in this area will lean towards a Mediterranean style with lots of curves," he revealed. "But to be honest, this sale happened so quickly that it caught us off guard. We might just pack up the kids in a caravan for the Christmas holidays and go on an adventure. Why not?!"
