In light of recent challenges experienced with the Nixle emergency system, and considering the well-publicized issues faced during devastating fires in Boulder County and Maui, Montezuma County has introduced a new and highly reliable emergency alert system. This innovative platform enables residents to stay informed about critical situations, including severe weather events, road closures, evacuations, missing persons, and more.

The Cortez Police Department is proud to present this upgraded system, designed to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of emergency alerts. Unlike its predecessor, this system empowers emergency personnel to customize alerts for specific neighborhoods or groups facing imminent threats, rather than issuing notifications county-wide.

The initiative to explore a new alert system gained momentum after the recent incident on Empire Street, where many residents in the affected area reported not receiving timely alerts. In response to these concerns, the Montezuma County community decided to take proactive measures.

Introducing Everbridge, the newly adopted alert platform, which operates on an "opt-in" basis. This approach gives residents the flexibility to select the types of messages they wish to receive, as well as their preferred methods and timing for receiving them.

During the sign-up process, community members have the freedom to opt for notifications through cellphone calls, text messages, emails, or a combination of these channels. These notifications are personalized, ensuring that individuals receive relevant alerts related to their specific geographic locations.

It's crucial to note that participation in this system is voluntary, and Nixle subscribers must actively opt into Everbridge to receive alerts and messages. Rest assured that the information provided during the sign-up process is safeguarded and will be exclusively used for emergency alert purposes, ensuring the privacy and security of residents' data.
