Friede & Goldman (F&G), renowned for its jackup rig designs, has joined forces with Norway's OIM Wind to introduce a revolutionary Wind Turbine Installation Vessel (WTIV) named FO-146. This innovative vessel is designed to address the ever-changing needs of the global offshore wind industry.

The FO-146 is an evolution of F&G's WindSetter Class WTIVs and represents a fusion of the industry's most advanced technology and creative solutions. F&G and OIM Wind share a common commitment to delivering outstanding value for money and tackling the challenges of the wind market. Their collaborative design offers unparalleled performance, efficiency, and versatility.

This vessel's hull can accommodate up to five 18MW or four 20MW wind turbine generator sets, complete with their full-height towers on its main deck. With a water depth capacity of 80 meters and a 3200-ton SWL leg encircling crane, it possesses the reach and capacity to install XXL foundations exceeding 3000 tons.

Robert Clague, Vice President of Engineering at F&G, expressed his enthusiasm for the FO-146 WTIV, calling it a "game-changing and 'Green' solution" that meets the evolving demands of the offshore wind industry. He emphasized that their collaboration with OIM Wind was instrumental in bringing this innovative design to life.

OIM Wind, established in 2013, along with its financial partners, signed an EPC contract in October 2020 with China's offshore yard CIMC Raffles for the construction of up to two LNG-powered wind farm installation units of the BT-220IU design.

Oddgeir Indrestrand, Founder and Director of OIM Wind, highlighted the vessel's commitment to providing innovative solutions for the offshore industry. Through their partnership with Friede & Goldman, they have created a vessel that not only meets the future needs of the global offshore wind market but also offers exceptional value for their clients.

The FO-146 WTIV has already generated substantial interest in the industry, with numerous ongoing offshore tender solicitations. Plans are in motion for the construction of at least two ships to meet demand in both the US and global offshore markets. This innovative vessel is set to transform the offshore wind installation landscape, ensuring efficient and cost-effective solutions for the industry's evolving challenges.
