In alignment with the Scottish Government's 2023 UCI Legacy Cycling Investment Programme, ScotRail has taken a significant stride in improving the cyclist experience by enabling direct cycle reservations through the ScotRail app. This update has made it more convenient than ever for cyclists to plan their adventures along Scotland's Railway.

Previously, the sole option for reserving a space for bicycles on ScotRail trains was via the ScotRail website. However, the recent app feature allows cyclists to effortlessly make reservations, streamlining the process and enhancing the customer experience for cyclists all across Scotland.

The £2 million 2023 UCI Legacy Cycling Investment Programme, unveiled in anticipation of this summer's championships, has a two-fold mission: to establish a sustainable legacy for cycling and to foster its growth throughout the country. ScotRail's introduction of cycle reservations through its app is a pivotal step toward realizing this vision.

Among other investments made through the legacy fund is the introduction of eye-catching green signage, now installed throughout ScotRail's fleet of trains. This signage serves as a guide for cyclists, directing them to designated areas of the train where they can safely board and secure their bicycles. Additionally, noticeable bright blue signage is being implemented to highlight accessible carriages, ensuring inclusivity for all users.

David Lister, ScotRail's Safety, Engineering, and Sustainability Director, expressed the company's commitment to promoting active and sustainable travel options while delivering top-notch service to their customers. He noted, "The introduction of cycle reservations through our app will benefit the entire cycling community, making it easier for customers to navigate and secure their cycle reservations with just a few taps. With this new feature, we're pedaling in the right direction toward a greener, more cyclist-friendly Scotland."

This initiative not only streamlines the process for cyclists but also supports Scotland's green and sustainable travel goals, providing a seamless solution for those looking to explore the scenic routes along Scotland's Railway.
