In a world where crypto and stock investors explore various methods to predict market trends, an intriguing trend is emerging in Thailand. A growing group of investors is turning to divine powers and astrology for market predictions, including the volatile crypto market. This unconventional approach has recently garnered attention on a Reddit thread in the r/cryptocurrency community.
One Thai astrologist known as "Pimfah" runs a Facebook group with over 160,000 members. In this group, participants request and share tarot card readings, with some seeking insights into what these readings might indicate for the crypto market.
Another self-proclaimed fortune teller, Ajarn Ton, operates a YouTube channel with nearly 26,000 subscribers. On this platform, he has uploaded hundreds of videos attempting to predict the prices of various cryptocurrencies using astrological techniques. Ton's most recent prediction suggests that Terraform Labs' cryptocurrency Terra Luna Classic (LUNC) could surge by nearly 50,000%, reaching $0.029. However, as of now, it is trading at less than $0.000055.
Reactions to these unconventional prediction methods are mixed. Some Redditors expressed skepticism, with one suggesting that making enough vague predictions eventually leads to being correct. Others found humor in the situation, likening it to astrology or even a hamster's predictive abilities.
While such spiritual beliefs may attract skepticism in Western cultures, they are not considered unusual in Thailand, a predominantly Buddhist country. According to a Pew Research report from September, over 80% of surveyed Thais believe in deities, spirits, or higher powers, and nearly half believe in the influence of spells and curses.
Interestingly, astrology has also found its way into crypto trading strategies in Western countries. In the 2021 crypto bull market, TikTok astrologer Maren Altman gained a massive following for her astrology-backed Bitcoin price predictions. She applied her knowledge of financial astrology to cryptocurrency markets, which resonated with her audience.
Dutch-born Bitcoin enthusiast Didi Taihuttu, known as the "Bitcoin family" patriarch, uses a unique market indicator that combines moon cycles with trading data to identify buying and selling opportunities for Bitcoin.
Some Redditors theorize that belief in astrology could indirectly impact market prices, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy as traders adjust their actions based on astrological predictions.
As for the future of Bitcoin, the pseudonymous crypto-focused astrologer "Crypto Damus" suggested a positive alignment of Mars with Bitcoin's natal Mars, potentially signaling market strength. However, they also noted that the transit of Mars in Scorpio historically hasn't been favorable for BTC, leaving the outcome open to interpretation.
