How Mango is transforming the cotton industry with regenerative practices

Mango, the Spanish fashion brand, has announced its commitment to regenerative cotton as part of its sustainability strategy. The company aims to source 100% of its cotton from regenerative agriculture by 2030, starting with 10% by 2025.

Regenerative cotton is a type of cotton that is grown using practices that improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Regenerative cotton farming can help mitigate the environmental impacts of conventional cotton production, which consumes large amounts of water, energy, and chemicals, and contributes to soil erosion, land degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions.

Mango is collaborating with the U.S. Regenerative Cotton Fund, an initiative from the Soil Health Institute that supports cotton farmers in adopting regenerative practices across more than 1 million acres of U.S. land. The fund provides farmers with access to goal setting and measurement, the economics of soil health, farmer education, assessing impact, and creating a resilient future through diversity, equity and inclusion1.

Mango is also working with other partners, such as the Organic Cotton Accelerator and the Better Cotton Initiative, to promote organic and sustainable cotton production. The company has already achieved its goal of sourcing 50% of its cotton from sustainable sources in 2020, and plans to reach 100% by 2022.

Mango’s commitment to regenerative cotton is part of its broader vision to become a more responsible and circular fashion brand. The company has set ambitious targets to reduce its water consumption, energy use, waste generation, and carbon footprint, and to increase its use of recycled and organic materials. Mango is also developing circular design principles, extending the life cycle of its products, and supporting social and environmental causes.

By embracing regenerative cotton, Mango is not only improving its own sustainability performance, but also contributing to the global efforts to combat climate change and restore nature. Regenerative cotton is a win-win solution for the environment, the farmers, and the consumers, who can enjoy high-quality and durable products that are made with good practices and support our farmland.
