Introducing a New Mexican Seafood Food Truck in Golden Hill
Luis Romero's passion for cooking has deep roots. He fondly recalls his childhood days spent watching his grandmother and aunt craft delectable dishes, igniting his lifelong fascination with the culinary arts. However, it took a pandemic-induced layoff from his restaurant job to inspire him to fully embrace his culinary calling.
After a two-year journey that involved sharing his creations with family and friends and hosting pop-up events at his friend's Longplay HiFi establishment, Luis has now realized his dream. He proudly presents "Mariscos Tone Camarón," his brand-new food truck, conveniently parked outside Golden Hill Liquor and open from Wednesday to Sunday.
At Mariscos Tone Camarón, patrons can savor an array of mouthwatering dishes, including refreshing ceviche, delectable Baja shrimp tacos, and tantalizing aguachile verde featuring butterfly shrimp marinated in a zesty serrano lime sauce. The entire menu is a tribute to Luis's family heritage, with seafood sourced directly from Ensenada. To keep things exciting, Romero plans to bring back the freshest catches of the day from Baja, adding delightful daily specials to the menu.
A Visionary Pastry Chef Brings Artisan Bakery to Symphony Towers
Downtown San Diego is about to welcome a delightful addition, courtesy of renowned pastry chef Adrian Mendoza, who has graced the kitchens of Urban Kitchen Group, Herb and Wood, and Wayfarer Bread & Pastry. This new venture will find its home at the ground level of Symphony Towers, an iconic locale housing the San Diego Symphony and the University Club.
The inception of "Knead Bakery" is the result of a collaboration between Mendoza and Brian Lee, the general manager of the University Club, who had previously worked alongside Mendoza at Herb and Wood and Herringbone. After two years of meticulous planning, Knead Bakery is set to open its doors in January or February of the upcoming year.
Knead Bakery's menu promises a delectable array of offerings, including freshly baked baguettes, sourdough bread, flavorful focaccia, mouthwatering danishes, muffins, hand pies, and specialty cakes. In addition to these delightful baked goods, patrons can enjoy homemade breads, fresh juices, coffee, and seasonal dishes made from locally-sourced ingredients. Knead Bakery welcomes diners and offers takeout services from Monday to Friday, between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Mendoza and Lee hope that this bakery will infuse new energy into the area and inspire the community to rediscover the charm of downtown.
